CAMP  ACTIVITIES

Kate will guide participants to choose an animal that they feel close to.

Campers then build a sculpture of this animal, exploring its amazing attributes and adaptations.

On the last day of camp, we will perform a short play for family, friends, and neighbors.

The campers will write the story for the play about their animals. Then, the young artists will bring the animals to life through their explorations.

An integrated part of the week will be engaging in nature activities and learning about farm animals with water game breaks and art activities directed by Kate.

CAMP DIRECTOR

Kate Long Hodges

Kate Long Hodges grew up on an apple farm in Cornwall, Vermont, then moved to Tucson and received her Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Arizona.

Kate teaches sculpture as adjunct professor at the University of Arizona and runs her own mobile art school called Little Lightning Studios, teaching art to all ages in southern Arizona and Vermont. Kate is an avid landscape gardener and lives in South Tucson.

She is Co-Director of The Land With No Name, Sanctuary For Homeless Sculpture, with sculptor and husband Ted Wade Springer. This is a 25-acre habitat for outdoor sculpture (international and local artists’ works), a retreat space for artists to come make their art, and a place for community members of all ages to come and simply be. It is a high desert grassland located 35 miles southwest of Tucson in the Sierrita mountains. This alternative space is for people to engage in art and the land.
